The Adventure

 

What exactly is the Goat Run?

A seven-day road adventure across France in a legendary Citroën 2CV. You'll navigate your own route, solve challenges, survive questionable mechanical decisions and discover places Google forgot existed.

 

Is this a race?

Absolutely not.

Nobody wins by arriving first.

You win by collecting stories you'll still be telling twenty years from now.

 

Do we receive a route?

No.

You’ll receive a destination.

How you get there is entirely your problem.

(Which is exactly where the fun starts.)

 

How many kilometres will we drive?

Expect somewhere 1.250 km.

Or considerably more if your navigator has confidence instead of talent.

 

How difficult is the adventure?

The Goat Run isn't a race, an endurance rally or a survival challenge. If you can drive a manual car, enjoy being outdoors and don't mind the occasional unexpected detour, you'll do just fine.

The biggest challenge isn't the driving—it's embracing the unknown.

 

Can beginners join?

Absolutely. If you have experience with driving with a stick for at least a couple of years, you’re in! 

Most participants have never driven a 2CV before. Before departure, we'll introduce you to the car and explain its quirks. Within an hour you'll probably be shifting gears with one hand while waving at strangers with the other.

Curiosity is far more important than experience.
 

What's the average daily driving time?

Plan on driving around 4 to 6 hours per day, depending on the route you choose.

Some teams will spend the afternoon exploring mountain villages or swimming in rivers. Others will accidentally take a 200-kilometre detour because someone insisted they knew a shortcut.

There's no right way to do the Goat Run.

 

What happens in case of bad weather?

The Goat Run happens rain or shine.

A little rain usually creates the best stories anyway.

If extreme weather affects safety, we'll provide guidance or adjust where necessary. Otherwise, pack a rain jacket, embrace the elements and keep driving.

Adventure rarely comes with perfect weather.

 

Will there be prizes?

Yes.

But not for driving fastest.

Expect awards for creativity, stupidity (within reason), teamwork and unforgettable moments.

 

Can we extend our holiday before or afterwards?

Absolutely.
Many teams turn the Goat Run into something bigger. Before the flag drops or after the dust settles, chase the sun through Provence, get gloriously lost along the Côte d’Azur, conquer a few Alpine bends—or point the compass north and discover Belgium’s medieval cities, legendary beers, rebellious culture and seriously underrated gastronomy.
Come early. Stay longer. Take the scenic route.
You're welcome to turn the Goat Run into the beginning of an even bigger adventure.

 

What if we get lost?

Congratulations.

You're officially doing the Goat Run correctly.

Seriously though: every team receives navigation information, emergency contact details and access to organisational support if needed.

Getting lost for an hour often leads to discovering places that never would have appeared in any guidebook.

Sometimes the wrong turn turns out to be the best part of the journey.

Navigation

Can we use Google Maps?

Of course.

You can also use paper maps, instinct or blind optimism.

We're not judging.

 

Will there be checkpoints?

Yes. One pitstop. Somewhere in between.

Safety

Is there support?

Yes.

There is emergency technical support and organisational assistance if something genuinely goes wrong.

This isn't survival television.

 

Is this dangerous?

Not particularly.

Unless your teammate insists they "know a shortcut."

 

What insurance is included?

Every rental car is insured, fully.

The exact coverage and deductible are explained before departure.

Personal travel insurance remains your own responsibility.

 

What if not enough teams sign up?

Every great adventure needs a few fellow rebels. If the minimum number of participants required to make The Goat Run happen is not reached by 31 December 2026, we reserve the right to cancel the event.

No worries, no tricks, no disappearing goats: if we cancel for this reason, every registered participant will receive a full refund of all registration fees paid to The Rebelgians.

So you can book your spot with confidence. The only thing at risk is your reputation for making sensible holiday choices.

The 2CV cars

 

What car will we drive?

A genuine Citroën 2CV.

Manual gearbox.

Tiny engine.

Huge personality.

 

Can we bring our own 2CV?

Not during the standard Goat Run.

Every team drives one of our identical rental cars.

 

Do I need experience driving a 2CV?

No. 

If you can drive a manual car for a while , you'll learn quickly.

 

What happens if the car breaks down?

You're driving a 2CV.

So let's just say we've prepared for reality.

Technical assistance is available in genuine emergencies, but solving smaller problems yourself is part of the adventure.

 

Teams

How many people fit in one car?

Up to four.

Two is comfortable.

Three is sociable.

Four is... educational.

Four plus luggage? Team-building exercise. 

 

Can I register alone?

No.

 

Minimum age?

Drivers must be at least 21 years old and have held a manual driving licence for at least three years.

Passengers can be younger (18+).

 

Can we drive through toll roads or avoid them?

Please avoid them or you will pay for it, more than toll costs.
The 2CV experience recommends the smallest roads.

 

Can we charge our phones in the car?

No.

Just don't expect the electrical system to rival a Tesla.

 

Can we decorate our 2CV?

Please do. 

In fact, we'd be disappointed if you didn't. But please be gentle for body of your 2CV, or your deposit will be claimed.

Every team receives a template to create their own bonnet sticker, door decal or flag before the event.

 

Accommodation & Food

Are hotels included?

No.

Every evening you decide where you'll sleep.

Camp.

Hotel.

Barn.

Luxury château.

Questionable roadside motel.

Your adventure, your choice.

 

Are meals included?

Only during the official start and finish events.

Everything in between is entirely up to you.

Can vegetarians or vegans join the dinners?

Of course.

Just let us know your dietary requirements before the event and we'll make sure suitable options are available during the official start and finish dinners.

Fuel, accommodation, food, drinks and toll roads are not included.

 

How much extra budget should we expect?

That depends entirely on your travel style.

As a rough guide, most teams spend €600–€1,200 per car during the week on fuel, accommodation, food, drinks and optional toll roads.

You can travel on a backpacker's budget or sleep in boutique hotels every night. The adventure stays the same.

 

Is fancy dress allowed?

Strongly encouraged.

Good decisions make good memories.

Bad costume decisions make even better ones.

 

General

 

How can we pay our the refundable vehicle deposit of €1.500?

Please by MasterCard or European cards.
You can get rid of it during the introduction at the launch.
Please only with legal European Cards of Mastercard. No dispute.

 

Do we need to speak English?

Yes.

The event is organised in English, and all briefings and communication are in English.

That said, you certainly don't need to be fluent. If you can order a beer and laugh at a bad joke, you'll fit in perfectly.

Can I cancel my ticket?

Tickets are non-refundable unless stated otherwise in our Terms & Conditions.

You may be able to transfer your ticket to another participant.

 

What should the luggage look like?

What should I pack?

Think less "holiday".

Think more "expedition."

Let’s say, only 4 pieces of ‘cabin luggages’ fit a 2CV trunk.

Is this suitable for everyone?

If you're looking for room service, heated seats and predictable holidays...

Probably not.

If you're looking for stories you'll tell for the rest of your life...
